Vietnam has taken a bold step toward international integration — English will soon become a mandatory subject starting from Grade 1, under a nationwide plan to make it the second language in all schools by 2030.

- In the following years, the share of Level 3 schools will rise to 15%, Level 2 to 20%, and Level 1 to 50%.
- Comprehensive Evaluation: Schools will be assessed based on teaching quality, language environment, curriculum design, digital transformation, AI application, and international cooperation.
- Preschool Focus: Within five years, all kindergartens must introduce English, with at least 10% reaching Level 1.
- By 2045, the targets are 50% (Level 1), 20% (Level 2), and 10% (Level 3).
- Higher Education: By 2035, half of Vietnam’s universities are expected to meet Level 2 standards, and 35% will reach Level 3.
Currently, English is compulsory only from Grade 3, and some schools offer it earlier as an elective if they have enough qualified teachers and resources.
