Hourly Paid English Teacher at British Council Bangkok – CELTA Required

The British Council is recruiting Hourly Paid Teachers of English for its two well-established teaching centres in Bangkok — Siam Square and Pinklao — as well as for partner school contracts across the city. This is a fixed-term, 12-month renewable role with a tentative start date of September 2026.

Job Description

As an Hourly Paid Instructor, you will plan and deliver engaging, high-quality English language lessons tailored to learners across a wide range of age groups and proficiency levels — from very young learners (aged 4+) through to adult students. Core responsibilities include:

• Teaching English classes across Young Learner and/or Adult programmes in line with British Council curriculum standards
• Monitoring student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback, and fostering learner independence
• Maintaining accurate student records, completing marking, writing reports, and managing assessment administration
• Contributing to course and materials development alongside academic colleagues
• Participating in and delivering INSETT (in-service teacher training) sessions and professional development activities
• Supporting marketing efforts and delivering excellent customer service in line with British Council standards
• Attending staff meetings, parent-teacher events (held twice a year at partner schools), and extracurricular support activities as required
• Upholding British Council policies on safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion at all times

Instructors at partner schools typically work Monday to Friday during school hours (approximately 7:30 am–3:30 pm), with potential after-school commitments. Centre-based staff should be available across the full centre timetable, which runs from 8:00 am to 9:45 pm, seven days a week including weekends.

Requirements

Essential:

• Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline
• Recognised EFL Certificate — CELTA or Trinity Certificate TESOL
• Minimum 1,200 hours of post-certificate teaching experience across two or more age groups (young learners aged 4–7, 8–12, 13–17, or adults 17+); candidates with fewer than 2 years’ post-certificate experience may still be considered if applications are strong
• High English proficiency — CEFR C2 level (equivalent to IELTS Academic Band 8–9 in each section)

Desirable:

• DELTA, DipTESOL, or relevant Master’s Degree / PGCE
• Young Learner EFL qualification (e.g. CELTYL, TYLEC)
• Very Young Learner qualification (e.g. NILE Teaching English in Pre-Primary Education)
• SEN qualification and experience working with learners with special educational needs
• Previous experience in a Thai mainstream school, language centre, or similar large monolingual teaching context
