Tokyo YMCA International School (TYIS) is a vibrant, inclusive learning community in Tokyo dedicated to academic excellence and personal growth for students from diverse backgrounds. We are currently looking for a passionate Part-Time IT Teacher and Help Desk Support to join our team.

Important: Applicants must currently be located in Japan to be considered for this role.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Education, Engineering, Networking, Programming, or a related field (minimum requirement)
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience
  • Strong grasp of computer science principles and IT concepts appropriate for K-12 learners
  • Ability to integrate technology effectively into classroom lessons
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills
  • Proficiency with educational software and digital tools

Compensation & Benefits

  • Children’s Tuition: Dependents may attend TYIS tuition-free (ancillary fees such as bus and uniform may apply)
  • Health & Dental Insurance: Company-sponsored on an 80/20 cost-sharing basis (school covers 80%)
  • Salary Deductions: Standard Japanese deductions apply — health insurance, employment insurance, workers’ compensation, pension, income tax, and residence tax
  • Paid Leave: Starts at 10 days per year and increases gradually; approximately 3 months of seasonal breaks are included with no campus requirement
  • Commuting Expenses: Daily local transportation costs during the school year are covered
  • Additional Earning Opportunities: Seasonal programs may provide extra pay
  • Saturday School: Not required — this is a separate entity from the regular position

  • Three professional references, at least one of whom must be a former principal or school administrator
  • If hired: a Criminal Background Check from your home country, or from Japan if you have been a resident for more than 5 years
